8 Maetl Decided to try my luck and purchase Autechre's debut album "Incunabula". First impression was that the tracks were a bit better than ones in "Untilted". Actually much better. Lots of good ambient melodies and pre-IDM mixed with techno and even electro hip-hop elements. However most of the tracks took quite a lot of time to.

Autechre's debut "Incunabula", by comparison to later work, is a slow moving, liquid and flat out beautiful soundscape, composed mostly of understated, looping percussion and flowing synth lines. The rhythms are not yet the focus, the mix is dominated by melancholic melodies. This is the only Autechre album that you could call "minimalist".

Production. Autechre member Rob Brown stated that Incunabula was "more of a compilation of old material" and that he believed follow-up album Amber was the "first album we put out on Warp.". Music critics David Stubbs and Ned Raggett noted that Incunabula would differ from Autechre's later releases. Raggett found that the album "doesn't totally display the full .

Jun 13,  · referencing Incunabula, 2xLP, Album, RE, RP, WARP LP17R, Warp lp17r, Warp LP17R Weird that there are so many comments about the pressing of this. I just received my copy of it (yes, yes, years late but I have the original silver vinyl which sounds terrible and always did), and frankly, it’s whisper quiet on all sides and sounds fantastic/5(K).

Although Autechre's debut release doesn't totally display the full experimentation which would dominate their future albums and singles, it is still striking nonetheless, as proof that the early comparisons to fellow Sheffield denizens Cabaret Voltaire weren't just misguided hype. Lumped in with the "intelligent dance music" semi-genre popular at the time, Autechre doesn't hit the .

In hindsight, *Incunabula* is perhaps Autechre's most shallow album; but `shallow' is a deceptive term, for the depths of even this birth-record cannot be fully grasped in the first, or even tenth, listen. Tiny, pivotal details surface with constant re-examination, and it blows my mind that this was made by two guys in their early twenties/5(62).
